Selection

In order to start the selection process Frances Walker, a Tiree Art Enterprises member and Bob Steedman, a well known Scottish architect, were charged with the responsibility of nominating a lead artist and lead architect.  They proposed Jake Harvey, Head of Sculpture at Edinburgh School of Art and Sutherland Hussey Architects, Edinburgh.

Once accepted by Tiree Art Enterprises, the search for other artists to work on this collaborative project began. An invitation was placed in the Scottish Art Council’s newsletter and An Magazine to artists to submit examples of their work.

Thirty nine artists from many disciplines applied with a good range of examples.

In the first instance each artist’s work was screened at a public meeting in Tiree to gauge the reaction of the local community to the merits of individuals.

These thoughts were then taken to a second screening in Edinburgh with members of Tiree Art Enterprises, lead artist, lead architect and Tom Littlewood from Independent Public Arts acting as scrutiniser.  Taking the Tiree views into account the final selection was made with Sandra Kennedy, Glen Onwin and Donald Urqhart being the successful candidates.
