Sculpture workshop

This series of workshops was led by Arthur Watson, Head of the Masters Course at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design with Doug Cocker, sculptor, working alongside.

The aim of the workshops was to raise public awareness of the significance of sculpture in the community.  The exercise started with a talk on “Public Art” which was open to the whole community.  This illustrated talk explained that not all sculpture was monumental but often environmental.

The workshops themselves were divided into three distinct groups :-

* school pupils who produced large pieces of work from flotsam and jetsam which they gathered from the local beaches.
* individual members of the public who created individual pieces of sculpture.
* a group who attend a craft class run by the Social Work Department and they produced a floating sculpture using the colours of the spectrum.
